Believing in the potential of art as a transformative force for those who engage with it, both individually and collectively, we can accept that it will also serve as an open platform for the artistic exploration of thoughts that exist but remain unspoken. For many, this is the only form of communication—ranging from the simplest, rawest thoughts to the complexity of the final object.
Edgar Moreira Carneiro, an artist and ceramicist from Santo Tirso, presents the exhibition “As Peixonas.” This exhibition reflects on his body of work, predominantly characterized by ceramics, and showcases more than 50 pieces created over the past decade. The central element, the “peixonas,” which among the various visual languages represent the artist’s primary stylistic device, leave his private collections and studio to flood the exhibition space with pieces that hover between animal and human physical characteristics.
In addition to the use of intense color and pronounced textures on the "peixonas" bodies, the artist endows all the characters with a story, emotions, and characteristics unique to human beings.
